As my mom was driving me along the west coast to the airport late at night, I commented on how dark the sky was in the direction I was headed, how unknown it looked, showing apprehension for the journey ahead of me. After an adequate pause, she responded “But there’s so much light.”

This all feels like a dream.

I don’t feel like I’m really in the air going to the other side of the planet. When I say that, I feel like the world is huge. But the fact that it’s possible for me to go there and that I am actually going makes it feel smaller than ever before.

Acknowledging the unknown is intimidating but I know it will quickly become familiar. I wonder how much else is out there in the dark that I don’t even know can shine light.
