Went to lunch with one of my Japanese classmates. We had tempura at a local spot on a side street in rich Roppongi. We sat at the counter with a pristine view of the two masters at work—using drumsticks as large chopsticks, mind you. As we were both nearly done with our dons, one of cooks tossed a mysterious piece of tempura into our bowls. It a chunk of banana. Banana tempura made with drumsticks. 

Spotted from my window seat on the bus: Woman biking with one of the longest daikon radishes I've ever seen in my life basically following out of her backseat basket.
